This Sunday, was listening to a missionary’s testimony during church service. One thing that impressed me was, he mentioned an incident where God fought his battles. There are various aspects of God and I usually concentrate on His unconditional love and amazing grace. This served as a reminder to me that my God is a Warrior God.
Whenever I read about battles in the Bible, it is always exciting, the way that God used to deliver His people. Each time the plan of action used to be different, no matter what odds God’s people are up against, when God was on their side, He always fought the battles for them and gave them tremendous victory.
I read about one such incident wherein King Hezekiah had to face a vast army (2 Chronicles 32). He received threats from the enemy king and all his people were scared. These are the words he used to encourage his soldiers:
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.
This verse reminded me of another familiar verse along these lines: 1 John 4:4 “The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world“. This serves as a great reminder to commit our battles into God’s mighty hand. We can personalize this verse by telling ourselves not to be discouraged because of _________________ (fill in the blanks with whatever personal battle that we are facing) as we have the Lord with us who is far more powerful than anything or anyone else and He will help us and fight our battles. So be encouraged!
You’re going before me and oceans are parting
You’re fighting my battles
When my feet are failing and my heart is shaking
You’re fighting my battles
