I’ve been commuting to office by office cab/carpool/ride share – however you want to call it. Each day the route is different and my fellow cab mates are different, but we all go to the same office 😀 Some rare days, I get to be the sole passenger in the cab. Today was one such day.

The moment I saw that I’d be the only person in the cab, (I get to know my cab details the previous night) I was like “Yes!” I don’t have to make small talks or talk about politics or current events or whatever the choice of topic of the day that the extrovert in the cab chooses to talk about!

I packed my kindle, hoping to catch up on the portion for the next book club meet. Cab arrived on time, I got in the cab. Saw the QR code, scanned it to mark attendance. Proceeded to read the book, till my motion sickness started kicking in. Then took out my headphones, chose some songs and added it to the playlist. Then looked out my window to the world outside.

I noticed how blue the sky was (this being summer), what pattern the clouds were, looked at the different buildings, mentally went over the list of meetings lined up for the day and the things I have to do.

Took out my mobile to change the song and opened the camera app to check if my makeup was too much or if my hair was ok. Ended up spending 5 minutes taking selfies!

When the traffic slowed, I looked to the left to find my favourite lake and was wondering whether to take a pic or not, right when I made the decision to take, a big truck came and blocked my view. (Happens every time!)

I stopped looking and turned to the front. That’s when I noticed, there was a verse hanging on the rearview mirror, that said: “I am with you always” I was pleasantly surprised and also shocked because I had spent more than half an hour in that cab and didn’t even see what was right in front of me.

This prompted me to think, how many times we ignore what is there right in front of us and get distracted by all the things that are around us and within us.

The world does its level best in trying to distract us. If only we could open our eyes and see what God has in store for us. If only we could look at His wonderful promises and be assured of His presence that brings peace to our hearts. (I am with you always) If only…
