A few years ago, my Mom decided to give voluntary retirement as her work was getting hectic and she needed some rest. So she submitted her request to her higher authorities. We were a bit worried as we didn’t know where to settle. We thought of a few options: one being in the same place where we were currently and maybe rent/buy a house and settle. The other option was renting/buying a house in Chennai where my sister is working. I also thought it would be nice if my mom settled in a place nearer to Bangalore so that I can go and visit her in the weekends if I chose to (because currently we have to plan for long leaves in order to travel there)
I was so confused at that time because it was a big decision and we don’t move around that much so we wanted to make the right decision. During that time, as I prayed and read the word of God, I was reading Psalms 107 and some verses from that Chapter spoke right into my heart.
“Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle.” (verse 4)
This was just right for my situation and as I read along, I read:
“He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.” (v7)
Exactly the verse I needed! Verses 5 and 6 speaks about the people crying out to the Lord in their trouble and how God delivered them from their distress. I held on to this verse and I prayed to God that He would lead us in this decision on which city to settle. Days passed by and my mother decided to withdraw her request for voluntary retirement. So we had time, some 3-4 years to decide on where to settle.
Then I got married and life went on and I forgot this promise of God. But you see – God didn’t forget it! Through some contacts in my mom’s office, He helped her buy a house in the same place. My learning from this is “God doesn’t forget His promises!” His promises are Yes and Amen in Christ Jesus! And what a comforting thought that is! Verses 8 and 9 says:
“Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”
I take this moment to thank the Lord for this specific promise that He gave me and for fulfilling it in my life and even though I had forgotten about it, He didn’t forget but He led us in His own time and ways. He has done wonderful things in our lives and indeed he has satisfied us with good things! Thank You Lord!
