I’d purchased a pink Dahlia a few months back. It was such a nice dark magenta-pink. It was so attractive. There was one fully bloomed flower and 2-3 buds during purchase. The second bud also bloomed. The problem started just when the third bud was about to bloom.

The potted plant was placed in the 4th floor balcony with nets to prevent the pigeons from destroying the plants. But somehow a rat managed to come in and ate up all the buds: both the bloomed one and the other small buds. It also managed to destroy the rose buds and ate through the cover of the bean bag I’d kept in the balcony. I’ve never before heard of rats eating buds!

While I was figuring out ways to stop the rat menace, I decided to move the Dahlia plant to the other balcony. Sadly, the plant dried up and all leaves started falling. I tried bringing back the plant to it’s original place (after solving the rat problem) but the plant was gone. Even the stalk got dried up and I had no hope of this ever coming up.

Like I do with all other pots, it was lying dormant for sometime, then I decided to put other seeds (was it balsam?), waited for 2-3 weeks. None of it grew, then I tried putting some other seeds (morning glory this time). Waited for another week or two, none of it grew, then I forgot all about it.

After a while, I saw some small shoot coming up. Most often than not, it usually is some wild plant or the other, so waited a bit before deciding to pluck it out. Then once the leaves appeared, it looked like balsam plant so I was wondering “Wow, balsam is coming up after so long!” But it was taking such a long time to grow and the leaves’ shape looked like something I’ve never seen before so ruled out that it is balsam.

Then as it grew some more, it struck me: it was Dahlia! After so long! Coming up from the roots. I was so surprised, because I’d lost all hope and it was so long ago, that it didn’t even strike me at first. I’d thought it to be beyond all hope but it grew up and bloomed again. How amazing it is!

This episode made me think of things that are lying dormant in my life. The promises of God that lay long forgotten, as time has passed me by.

Does this remind you of anything in your life that you have given up on? You’d become weary of waiting and now feel like, too much time has passed and it is beyond hope. You’re just drifting with the tide, going with the flow.

Though we may have forgotten it, God has not. Passing of time has nothing to do with hindering God’s plans. He’s not done with it yet. Things might seem dormant, it might be quiet, God might seem silent, but He is still working, though we may not be able to get to see it yet. Nothing is beyond hope, no situation is beyond reach for God to turn things around. So don’t give up yet.

One day, you will get to see God’s plans for your life unfurl, grow, bud and blossom: just like this pink Dahlia.

Beautifully said sis. Our Lord promises in Galatians 6:9 ‘For in due season we shall reap, if we faint not’. Our God is a faithful God and He always keeps His promises.
