It has been 4 years since I first stepped in Bangalore for my interview for internship. It all happened at such short notice. They had called my friend the previous day and asked if we could attend the interviews on the day after. She had said yes! I was wondering how we will be able to get all things done in a day. Got to get the tickets, need to apply for leave in college and parents had to send a permission letter, hostel authorities have to give their permission and so on. (I am usually not used to last minute planning, I prefer knowing things in advance then prepare my mind for everything and then work things out at my own pace. Any last minute plans don’t sit well with me.) to top it all, I was in some interview the whole day!
So my friend applied leave on my behalf, another friend booked the tickets, my mom called the hostel to give her permission and finally the hostel authorities also granted their permission (usually they need 2 days advance notice before any travel) so we were all set and we reached Bangalore on the day of our interview. We arrived at silk board and took an auto, went to a hotel, refreshed ourselves, walked to a restaurant and had our breakfast( I barely ate anything all day due to the tension). We had to walk around a little bit to find the right bus stop. Crossing those busy roads was a bit scary. We were told that we should wait for bus number 500c.
We got on the bus, it took 1.5 hours or so to reach and I was wondering it is almost like going to a different city altogether! (Madurai to Dindigul takes 1.5 hours) My other friends had already reached there. At the security gate I was asked to give my govt. approved ID card and I didn’t have it with me. (As I don’t usually carry any important documents with me and all documents were at home and I had directly traveled from college) I actually had the scanned copy of my passport with me, so they allowed me inside. We were waiting at the reception. (I don’t want to name any names, I could go with initials but all 4 people I met were having S as their initials! So here it goes)
Mr.S1 came to meet us and took the 3 of us to a conference room and gave some written test. Then he evaluated it right in front of us and then let us know how we scored. I got a 7 out of 10 I guess. Then we were taken to visitors rooms and each of us were placed in different rooms. I felt like we were in the midst of some serious interrogation! Then Mr. S2 and Mr.S3 came and introduced themselves and Mr.S3 proceeded to ask questions. (It was like a HR round) then he left. Enter Mr.S4! He proceeded to ask all technical questions while Mr.S2 silently listened on. Then I was asked to come up with an ER diagram while Mr.S4 left for lunch. Then Mr.S2 was asking me some questions which neither seemed technical nor HR! so I was a bit confused while answering and wondered what more rounds were in store for me.
But thank God there were no more rounds. I was chatting with the one who had already finished the interview and we were waiting for our other friend to finish. (In between all of this we had gone for lunch – I must mention the campus. It looked so beautiful and pleasant. I wished I could walk in to this company every day!) It was about 3 when it was all done for the 3 of us and then we went to Forum mall and spent our time there roaming around and had dinner then took an auto to the bus stand and came back to hostel.
Lesson I learned: God’s plans could be very different from what we have in mind. “As the heavens are higher then the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (Isa 55:9)
