This Good Friday, I heard a message which touched me. I thought I’d share the essence of it. The service was going on as usual and a brother was explaining the third saying of Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus addressed his mother Mary and said, “Dear Woman, here is your son” and He looked at his disciple John and said, “Here is your mother”. Here both Mary and John are at the feet of the cross. Jesus looked at Mary and knew the need of her heart. (She must’ve been thinking of what will happen to her when Jesus is gone.) Jesus, as a dutiful Son, wanted to provide for the needs of his earthly mother. Hence He gave John, the responsibility of taking care of his mother. He gave it to John because he was available at the feet of the cross.
We go to the feet of Jesus with various needs. (We always seem to be in need of something or the other!) God gladly does help us. But shouldn’t we grow from there, to be like the disciple, ready at Jesus’ feet, to be of service to God so that he can use us to provide for the needs of others?
When we look all around us, we see people in need, people who are lost, who are searching for answers, who are in need of comfort, in need of strength, in need of encouragement, in need of something! If we are available to God, He might use us to meet their needs! Maybe a kind look, a listening ear, a gentle smile, a word of encouragement, it could be anything! Are we so self-occupied as to not sense the needs of those around us? Are we too weary trying to carry our own burdens and not share with those of others around us?
Being a disciple of Christ means to follow Him, to lay our burdens at his feet and take up His yoke! Are we ready to share his burdens with him? Make his heart’s cry as ours? Are we ready to be the signpost where he has placed us, showing others “The Way”? He is always there for us when we need him, but Are we available for God?

One response to “Are we available for God?”

If we are available to God, He will (you used "might") use us to meet their needs! Very apt message for Phil 2:5, and 2 Corinthians 3:18, how to deny self, and wear Him: true discipleship. Thanks Hannah sis. Just being available in His feet,, ministering Him, in-turn ministering others as He intends.
