Every Christmas, I take time to make some bookmarks in bulk and give it to a specific set of people. This time, I did the same. I had used deco transfer sheets/stickers to transfer images on to the bookmarks then added names to it to give it away as a personalised gift.
In order to transfer the images, I peel the protective cover, paste it on to the card/bookmark, I soak the back part of the sticker in water and wait a bit before removing the sticker to complete the image transfer.
If we are not careful, the image may not stick completely. If we take out the sticker early or if we didn’t apply water evenly to soak all parts, it will come out damaged. While doing it in bulk, I ended up damaging a particular bird sticker. It had lost a major part of it’s wing, it was missing a tiny corner of it’s bird house roof and a bit of the grassy ground.
I set it aside as I cannot gift a damaged item, I decided to keep it for myself and use it as a bookmark for my journal, the colour scheme was also matching my journal cover and that made me think, “Maybe this was meant for me.”
Like my usual overthinking self, I thought to myself, maybe I am like this bird – broken a bit. So it is apt that I should keep it. I decided to punch it and tag it before adding it to my journal. During the process, I noticed in my messy table that some acrylic paint tubes and brushes were lying around.
I thought why not try adding some blue paint to cover the damaged bird. Even if it doesn’t look good, I’d keep it with myself so it shouldn’t be a problem. I took a brush and some blue paint and did some patch work.

And Voila! How beautiful the bird looks now! If you look at it from an angle, it even looks like it has some 3D effect! I was reminded of the restorative work of God. No matter how damaged and broken we are, He is capable of making us into something beautiful!
