Around 1pm, a snake was spotted near our kitchen garden door. The stray kittens outside had been keeping a close watch on it, which made my Mother in law curious and spot the snake.
It was medium sized to big, Russel viper. One of the top 4 poisonous snakes in India! Its bite is described as painful and deadly. We called up a snake catcher who said he’d come in 15 mins.
We kept a close eye on the snake for the next 15 minutes so that we’d be aware on where it is and it’d be easier to catch.
The snake was slow moving, it was trying to find a way out of the garden. It went near the edges, tried climbing walls but couldn’t, Tried climbing on the plants but realised they won’t hold its weight. Then took a turn towards the door, peeped through the glass. (I managed to take a photo of that) Next it moved near the balcony area and finally found the drainage hole through which it managed to go to the sideway of the house, from there on to the front garden, through the drainage pipe again and on to the road. Freedom!
I was frantically texting the WhatsApp group of our community about the snake moving on to the road/ probably other’s houses causing hazard.
Right then, the snake catcher arrived. The snake was about to move from the opposite house’s front area towards the drainage area. The snake catcher was fast, he used his looped stick to pull the snake on to the road, avoiding its escape to the drain. Then he managed to guide it towards his open bag and sealed the bag capturing it.
If he had been even a little delayed, we would have lost track of the snake. There were lot of empty plots nearby and some construction sites as well. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect!
Just this morning I had gone to the same kitchen garden to water the plants (it’s a bit overgrown, so I couldn’t even see properly on where I’m stepping) What wonderful ways God protects us from unseen/unknown dangers.
Maybe the snake wasn’t there when I stepped out, but I wouldn’t have seen it even if it were there! Thank God for his protection and for keeping us safe!
