Today morning, had one of those Monday blues. Found difficulty in dragging myself off the bed. With the power interruption and other interruptions, got late in getting ready to go to office. Like a teenager in some American movie, took banana for breakfast as I was running late (they usually pick apples and munch it on the way out 😉

Had to walk a kilometer to find an auto, got rejected by 3 auto drivers on the way. The moment I mention my destination, they nodded their heads in refusal. Just because I got delayed by 10 minutes had to walk the extra 10 minutes to find an auto (I usually manage to get one right outside the apartment during non-peak hours.)

The auto driver headed through the usual shortcut, just like everybody else and we all ended up jamming the narrow street. Add the additional complication of a railway crossing on the way. We were stuck in the same place for 15 minutes and we were in the same road for half an hour! (We must’ve moved some 0.5kms by then.)

I huffed and puffed, the driver looked tense. I tried to enquire if the railway crossing was the reason behind the traffic block. He got down to look ahead and so did the cab driver in the front. I did my best to put my head out the window to look between the two to find the reason but found none. I was cribbing to myself about the crabby situation that I was in – all the while listening to worship songs!

As I bent down to change to a fast beat song, a thought struck me. Maybe this delay was God giving me more time to worship Him. I always used to complain saying I’m busy and can’t find time to worship properly, but this was as if God was saying “See, there is time now, how about worship?” That brought about a much needed change in perspective for me. I took a pause and decided to do it.

Looked like the auto driver had also come to a decision. He started the auto in rigour and took a U-turn and took a detour – through another route. At least it was moving traffic and we managed to reach office, albeit a bit late.

At times in life, it feels like we’ve hit the brakes and nothings moving. No matter how much we analyse on why and how we landed in our current situation, it doesn’t help us move by even an inch.

It is at times like these that we need to take a pause and reflect on what God wants us to do or what God wants us to learn out of this. There is one quote that I like:

Until God opens the next door, Praise Him in the Hallway.

There is also a song about worshipping while waiting (by John Waller) I do believe it is the best strategy to follow. Praise helps us focus on God and not on the circumstances or the pathway that we are in. We can sing God’s faithfulness and His promises, His word encourages us along the journey.

So if at all you are in the waiting, might I suggest worship?
