We recently went on a trip to a small hill station nearby, over the weekend. It was a quiet little place, not much crowded – not much places to see, so not much of a tourist crowd, so no traffic. Only 14 hairpin bends and we managed to climb up the mountain within half an hour, so it wasn’t a stressful ride but pleasant one.

As we climbed up, the city that we left started growing smaller and smaller, the houses, the trees, everything. The view from up top was amazing. On one side, the view of the decreasing city, on the other hand, the mighty mountain with its tall and majestic trees. The air was so pure, devoid of pollution. The weather that day was awesome: not hot but not cold, cloudy but no rains, the perfect kind of weather.

It was green trees and bushes everywhere with an occasional dash of colours here and there. It made me wonder how beautifully God has designed and cared for it. The trees are always green, for God waters and takes care of it.

I love the mountains
I love the rolling hills
I love the flowers
I love the daffodils
I love the fireside
When all the lights are low
Boom-dee-a-da
Boom-dee-a-da
Boom-dee-a-da

It also made me think about how it would have been the first time they laid roads and started building that city on the mountain top. Did they envision how this would turn out to be? Did they know that the effort they made that day would benefit countless number of people in the future.

I also wondered about the mountains that have never been climbed – unexplored territory. There are some famous mountains that everyone wants to climb and set records but then there must be mountains or small hills or steep hills which no one has ever climbed before.

Though it made me think of the mountains I am yet to climb in my life, it also made me feel grateful for the mountains that I have managed to climb on my journey till now, both on the personal as well as professional front.

The mountains also gives us a shift in perspective. The problems that used to loom ahead of us giant-size, don’t seem that big anymore. Up top, it all feels so little and insignificant. It made sense that many of the prophets of olden times used to climb on mountains and met with God there. What a quiet place to meet!

Setting aside our problems, chores for the day, having a different, broadened perspective, wanting to look at the big picture in life, the stillness, the quiet place, the absence of rushing and hurrying around but just taking the time to stop and breathe and live in that moment, admiring the wonders of God’s creation, pondering on his glory revealed.

It was a good trip overall. A much needed getaway before we could come back and face the actual climbing of mountains of day to day activities.
