Few months back, I planted 5 seeds of the four o’clock flower (we call it andhi mandhaarai in tamil) Till date I have collected 157 healthy seeds, which are each capable of producing more! It reminded me of the verse:

Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. – John 12: 24.

Jesus was referring to his death on the cross, so by that we might live. He was also talking about how we need to lay down our lives as well so that we might live a fruitful life.

Usually when the year starts, we start with resolutions on what we will strive to do that year. Generally it goes along the lines of: Eat healthy, exercise more, learn something new, do more of what we love etc.

This year, as we draw to a close. What if we put something to death so that we may live fruitful lives in the coming year? Put to death bitterness and decide to forgive that person instead, put to death grumbling and complaining and choose to live content with an attitude of gratitude instead. Put to death the guilt and learn to accept the forgiveness that Christ offers instead, put to death pride and embrace humility instead.  Add to the list whatever needs to get out of your life and make way for the things awaiting you in the coming year.

We have a few more days left. Let us take this time to reflect on another year gone by and remember God’s faithfulness in guiding and leading us every step of the way and thank Him for all the blessings that he has bestowed us with, for all the harm that he has shielded us from, for being our light in this darkness, for being with us through the thick and thin, for being the God of the hills and valleys and for his unconditional, overwhelming, abundant love.

Count your blessings Name them one by one
Count your blessings See what God has done

Count your blessings Name them one by one
And it will surprise you What the lord has done
