It had been a busy few weeks at work. We had just completed developing a new feature and the different phases of testing had started. Slowly the number of issues in my name kept increasing, along with increasing severity. A blocker is the highest level of severity, it means the testers are blocked and they are not able to proceed with testing. So we(the developers) need to un-block them by fixing the issue or providing a work around so they can proceed with their testing.

One ultimate week, it was just blockers after blockers – a dhamaka! I was under pressure and in a hurry to close out on the bugs in my list, I ended up creating new bugs and while fixing those new bugs, old bugs were getting reopened.

And to top it all, I accidentally triggered some update in my laptop, which caused the existing setup, which was working earlier to fail. My builds were failing, I tried bringing it up on my own by googling stuff, none of it helped. I was driven to desperation.

I looked to the Lord for help. I was reminded of one of my recent favourite songs: [My help is on the way by Tobymac]

I’ve seen my share of troubles
But the Lord ain’t failed me yet
We’ll keep holding on to the promise y’all
That He’s rolling up His sleeves again
It may be midnight or midday
It’s never early, never late
He gon’ stand by what He claim
I’ve lived enough life to say
Help is on the way
Help is on the way (roundin’ the corner)
Help is on the way (comin’ for ya)
I’ve lived enough life to say
Help is on the way
And help did arrive in various forms from various directions: day by day, step by step. My manager stepped in, realising that I’m drowning, he pulled in a teammate to help out in sharing the load. My teammate stepped in, understanding the requirements quickly and contributed towards closing out on few bugs. My mentor stepped in, and gave ideas and solutions to things I was struggling with, trying to do it all on my own. My other teammate stepped in, by providing a solution for my build issues and helped me resolve it.
I still have bugs that I need to close out on, but definitely things have improved and I’m thankful to God for helping me along. He has been my Ebenezar and thus far He has helped me. He has been the Rock that I could lean on during trying times and He has not failed me, He has not let me put to shame.
I just realised that I have finished a decade in IT industry, I can surely say it was all by the grace of God. He has stepped in and saved me countless times, through these ten years. And I know and trust Him to lead me on till the end of my days. Closing this note with His promise:
I have upheld[you] since your birth,
and have carried since you were born.
Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you. – Isaiah 46:3,4.
