Even before the lockdown was announced, our companies had given us work from home options and we have been doing it for the past 2 weeks. Haven’t been venturing out for much other than my weekly vegetable shopping on Saturdays. Didn’t get to go to church on Sundays! But blessed attending online services and fellowshipping over WhatsApp instead.
Two major things have slowed down for me. One is the travel and traffic. Bangalore is well known for traffic but now the roads are empty. Earlier people used to be out on the roads all the time, no matter weekdays or weekends, mid afternoons or late nights. I used to wonder where all the people are going all the time, leading busy lives. All that has slowed down.
Another major slowdown is in terms of the instant gratification, the fast-food world. Be it ordering food in swiggy/zomato or ordering groceries in big basket/Amazon. You order today and you get it delivered the very next day. But now, slots are not available, most of the items are out of stock and minimum we need to wait for a week for delivery. Apart from these two, there are other slow downs but I am not gonna list all that.
In our day to day busy lives, we fail to slow down and listen to His voice. “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) When God spoke to Elijah in 1 kings chapter 19, it was not in the violent wind, or the earthquake or the fire, but after all this, was the gentle whisper of God. So now that things have slowed down, are we willing to be still and listen?
