There is power in prayer! and many of our prayers have been answered! If we make a list of all the prayers that we have prayed and the list of all the things for which God has answered and a list of all that are pending I am sure the answered list would definitely be longer. Then we should be happy right? that most of our prayers have been answered. But we seem to have some problems with the unanswered ones. We tend to ponder a lot on these rather than those that had been answered! It’s a human tendency I guess. We always have questions on why those were not answered.
There are some prayers that we might have been praying for years together! But along the way we get discouraged and stop praying sometimes, we loose hope, doubts creep in and disbelief sets in. We don’t feel like praying anymore. So what do we do? We give up? What does the Bible say about it? Luke chapter 18 verses 1 to 8, it starts like this “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up“
I would like to clarify one point here – when I say persist in prayer, I mean for those prayers that are under the will of God – maybe you are praying for salvation of a family member or deliverance from some harmful habit or restoration of broken relationships in the family. And not praying for a particular job in a particular company or to marry a particular person or to buy a particular house or car or whatever because I feel these are all just materialistic and we must always remember that we are just strangers and sojourners in this Earth so let us be persistent in focusing on things that have eternal significance.
I have my unanswered prayer list too and along the way I also got tired and weary but His words encouraged me to keep asking and not give up because our God is a prayer – answering God and He gives good gifts to those who ask Him. (Matthew 7:7-11)
