We are at the end of yet another year! Time seems to fly by so fast! Whenever we come to an end of a year, we always look ahead and welcome the New Year with hope in our hearts. We would wonder what this New Year would be like. If we are in the final semester we might look ahead with the hope that we would join some company the next year. If we are seeking alliances we might hope that we would get married the next year. If married then kid, or kid joins in school or promotion in workplace etc. There is always something that we look forward to. But before that, it is worth taking a look at how this year has been for us. For some it might have been a fantastic journey, we could claim that this was the best year ever! For others it could have been a painful one, could have been a loss of a loved one or strain in relationships or broken dreams or any other sort of struggle. But there is one thing common for all! This year would have definitely given us reasons to be thankful for!
You might try to scoff at me and say – No way! But I urge you to think through from January till December. There must definitely be days in your life that you felt happy. Some wonderful memories you created. You could have made a difference in someone’s life. Somebody’s kindness could have touched your heart. You could have got a new friend. Someone would have lent you their shoulder to cry on to share your burdens with. Or you could have been that person! You are alive and breathing! Isn’t that something that you should be thankful for when you hear of so many accidents and sudden deaths around you?
To be frank with you – Gratitude is generally not my attitude. I am more of the grumbling type. Whenever I face any situation even if it is good – I have the habit of finding something or the other wrong with it! And I whine and complain and grumble about it. It spoils my peace. I can see that clearly and I have realized that this negative attitude is just not working out for me. It’s time that I looked upon the brighter side of life. There are lots and lots of things that happened in my life that I should feel thankful for! I have got a loving husband, a caring family, a roof over my head, daily food, a job that pays me well, a car by which we travel around and visit places; gadgets, books and craft work by which I pass time, wonderful friends not just to chat but who also support and encourage me and above all this I have a relationship with my LORD and Savior who has been so kind, loving, compassionate and gracious towards me, He has blessed me with all the good things in life. He has been my guide, my support, my comfort, my source of strength and a rock of refuge all through this year. I thank Him and thank all of those who have been a part of my life this year.
So, moving on from an attitude of grumbling to an attitude of gratitude!
What are you thankful for this year?
