Last week, I was part of the VBS organized by our church and the theme was “Jesus is my Rock”. The kids learnt about how Jesus is our strong support on whom we can always lean on and turn to for help. How He is always faithful and always there for us! How it is fitting to build our lives on the Lord Jesus Christ and how important it is to have Jesus as the Cornerstone and foundation of our church! It was a wonderful learning experience.
At the beginning of each month, I’m in the habit of taking up a verse and asking God to help me experience the truth of it, all through that month. This month the verse was “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear.” So I hoped that I will be able to learn and experience God as my Helper this month.
If you had read the title, you would have found the link by now 😉 This week as I was reading my devotion, I came across the word “Ebenezer” which is in the Bible in 1 Samuel 7. The Israelites had gathered together and they were afraid of the Philistines, who had come to attack them, then they cried out to the Lord for help and He helped them by causing panic and confusion among the Philistine army. The Israelites gained the victory. Then Samuel offered thanks to the Lord and set up a stone naming it as “Ebenezer”[meaning “Rock of help”] saying ”This marks the place where God helped us

” as a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

It was good to know God as my rock of help – my Ebenezer, and it is always good to remember the various times that God has helped in the past. So the next time trouble comes my way and I feel afraid, I will remember to trust in my Ebenezer and experience the peace that surpasses all understanding, in knowing that, my God my Rock will help me through, this time too!
