Once a teacher of mine taught me what hope means. He was actually asking about our aims and ambitions or whatever – the usual college self-introduction stuff. As I am not an ambitious person (as my friends would know) I replied him saying that I don’t have any long-term goals as I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, the future is so uncertain. But he asked me a simple question. “Do you buy new dress for your birthday?” He got me! That’s hope! Even though we don’t know whether we will wake up that day we still go ahead and buy stuff.
Hope is something that we look forward to; it’s like seeing with the eyes of faith. Sometimes we do find ourselves in hopeless situations, at times some people (teachers? Or parents?)might have called us as “a hopeless case” meaning that they can see no way in which we could become better in our lives! (Unexpectedly, the same person would grow up to be better in their lives.)
We all have at least one prayer point in our list for which we have been asking God for a long time and we might have grown tired of asking, not even daring to hope, it might look like God is being silent or far away or that He is just not interested in listening to us. But it is far from the truth. God is never tired of listening to us. There is a reason behind everything that He is doing in our lives. Interestingly one of the names of God is, “the God of Hope”.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope” (Romans 15:13)
Even at times, when we feel like letting go, God doesn’t let go of us, not because of anything in us but because of whom He is – the God of Hope. Today He wants not just to fill us with hope to the full, but to fill us to overflow with hope! Let us trust in Him one more time.
He is always at work in our lives behind the scenes; we may not be able to see.
One day He will make things clear and that day is very near!
Just hope! J
